Arunachal Cabinet Sanctions 34 Posts for Government Engineering College at Toru

Itanagar: In a significant move to strengthen technical education infrastructure in the state, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu has approved the creation of 34 teaching and non-teaching posts for the upcoming Government Engineering College at Toru, located in Papum Pare district.
This decision marks a critical step toward operationalizing the institution, which is being developed as part of the state government’s broader vision to expand access to quality technical education in remote and under-served areas.
The sanctioned posts are expected to include a mix of faculty members (professors, assistant professors, lecturers) and support staff (administrative, laboratory, and clerical positions) essential for the day-to-day functioning of an engineering college.
The exact breakdown of the 34 posts is yet to be notified, but the intent is to ensure that the college can commence academic sessions with adequate teaching staff and functional administrative support.
A senior official in the Department of Higher and Technical Education said, “This decision enables the college to initiate faculty recruitment immediately, which is a prerequisite for securing AICTE approvals and admitting students. It’s a huge boost for the Toru region and the state at large.”
The Government Engineering College at Toru is part of Arunachal’s long-term plan to address the rising demand for technical education within the state. Currently, Arunachal Pradesh has very limited government-run engineering institutions, and many students are forced to migrate to other states for such education.
The Toru college, once functional, is expected to offer undergraduate degree programs in core engineering branches like Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Computer Science Engineering.
It is also part of a decentralization policy aimed at spreading higher education opportunities beyond Itanagar and other urban centers.
Recruitment notifications for the 34 posts are expected to be issued shortly by the Department of Higher and Technical Education. Infrastructure development at the college site is reportedly in its final stages, with classrooms, laboratories, and hostels under construction.
The government may also seek funding support from central schemes like TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme) to equip the institution.
