RGU Launches 21-Day ‘Deeksharambh 2025’ Induction Programme with Emphasis on Purpose, Inclusion, and Innovation

Guwahati: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) ceremoniously inaugurated its annual 21-day student induction programme, Deeksharambh 2025, on Wednesday at its campus in Guwahati. Designed to orient and inspire the incoming batch of students for the academic session 2025–2026, the programme promises a robust blend of academic insight, motivational discourse, and cultural immersion.
The inaugural event was graced by Shri Bimal Bora, Hon’ble Minister of Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises and Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, as the Chief Guest. Also present was eminent Odissi exponent and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Smti Sujata Mohapatra, as the Guest of Honour, along with the university’s top leadership and academic luminaries including Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari, Pro-Chancellor Shri A.K. Modi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Alak K. Buragohain, and Emeritus Professor Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury of the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity.
Delivering the keynote address, Minister Bimal Bora called on students to approach their academic journey with “curiosity and purpose.” Reflecting on his own student days, he underscored the importance of discipline, hard work, and values, while encouraging the youth to embody confidence and an entrepreneurial mindset. “Let your values guide every decision you make,” he urged, praising RGU for fostering an inclusive and resource-rich environment.
Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari offered a broader social vision, urging students to develop empathy for all sections of society, including the underprivileged and differently-abled. He called upon them to remain environmentally conscious and contribute to restoring India’s civilisational legacy at a time of global uncertainty. “A degree is merely a license,” he noted, “It’s your attitude and innovation that will distinguish you. Time isn’t the issue—direction is.”
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Alak K. Buragohain welcomed the freshers with warmth, describing university life as a transformative journey of personal and intellectual development. He emphasized the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and fostering a safe, inclusive campus culture. Students were encouraged to explore interdisciplinary programmes aligned with their passion and long-term goals.
The Deeksharambh programme will span three weeks and include interactive sessions with distinguished leaders from across domains. Among those scheduled to speak are Shri Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam; Shri Rakkam A. Sangma, Education Minister of Meghalaya; Prof. Gobardhan Das from IISER Bhopal; Brigadier Abani Kumar Pait (Retd); DGP of Assam, Shri Harmeet Singh, IPS; Prof. Bhagirathi Panda of ICSSR Shillong; Ms. Sonali Ghosh, IFS; tourism entrepreneur Ms. Jahnabi Phookan; actor Ravi Sharma; Ms. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, Chairperson & MD, Pride East Entertainment Ltd; Dr. Mamta Agarwal, Secretary General, AIU; and Dr. Purnima Sharma, MD, BCIL.
Since its inception, RGU has positioned itself as a progressive institution in the Northeast, emphasizing a blend of global exposure and local relevance. With its strong academic ecosystem and growing network of industry and research collaborations, the university aims to nurture socially aware, intellectually agile, and professionally ready graduates.
