IIT Guwahati to Organize GATE 2026; Exam Scheduled for February 7, 8, 14 & 15

Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will be the Organizing Institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, which will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The prestigious national-level examination is conducted by IISc Bangalore and all IITs, under the aegis of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
GATE is a computer-based test (CBT) that evaluates the comprehensive understanding of candidates in various undergraduate-level subjects in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities. The scores are used for admissions to Master’s, Doctoral, and direct Doctoral programs in institutes supported by the MoE and other government agencies. GATE scores are also widely accepted by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other reputed organizations for recruitment.
GATE 2026 will feature 30 test papers, all in English. A new sectional paper titled Energy Science (XE-I) will be introduced under the Engineering Sciences (XE) category. Candidates can choose to appear in one or two papers from the permitted combinations.
The GATE 2026 application portal is expected to open in the last week of August 2025. The examination will be held in two sessions (forenoon and afternoon) on each of the four designated days. The GATE score will be valid for three years from the date of result announcement.
