Infosys Targets Tier-2, Tier-3 Campuses to Revive Fresher Hiring; Northeast in Focus

Guwahati: In a clear signal of revival in the job market, Infosys has restarted large-scale campus hiring by expanding its recruitment drive to tier-2 and tier-3 engineering colleges across India, including institutions in the North Eastern states.

Senior executives from the software giant will personally visit colleges to conduct in-person interviews, a move seen as a step towards broadening access to opportunities beyond traditional metros.

The company plans to assess candidates on programming fundamentals, problem-solving, and aptitude for entry-level Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE) roles. The selection process will involve an aptitude test, group discussion, technical round, managerial round, and HR round, with the first four rounds taking place directly on campus.

Infosys’ outreach covers diverse branches including computer science, IT, electrical, electronics, telecom, civil, and mechanical engineering.

This renewed push comes after a turbulent hiring phase. Infosys’ fresher intake had dropped sharply to 11,900 in FY24 from 50,000 the year before, though it rose again to 15,000 in FY25. The company has now set a steady fresher hiring target of 15,000–20,000 annually through FY2026, demonstrating its commitment to nurturing young talent despite an uncertain demand environment.

For the Northeast, the development is particularly significant. Recruiters are showing rising interest in graduates from states like Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura.

Sagar Saikia, Head of Training and Placement at North Eastern Regional Institute of Managment, Guwahati, tole EduNe that he observes that undergraduates are gaining traction in fields such as system engineering, machine learning, and Python, with full-stack development continuing to be highly sought after. Infosys’ inclusion of colleges from this region highlights how India’s IT industry is looking to tap into underexplored talent pools, offering new career pathways to students who were earlier overlooked by top-tier recruiters.

By expanding its hiring footprint, Infosys is not only diversifying its workforce but also aligning with the broader goal of spreading IT opportunities to emerging education hubs across India, ensuring that young engineers in the Northeast and beyond can access high-value roles in digital technologies, AI, and cloud engineering.
