Karate Powerhouses Clash: St Anthony’s, Auxilium Clinch Team Titles at Mega School Meet

SHILLONG: In a thrilling display of youthful talent and martial arts discipline, the 31st Inter School Karate Tournament 2025 concluded on a high note on Saturday at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall, SAI, NEHU, with St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School retaining their title as the Boys’ Team Champions, reaffirming their dominance in the sport.
On the girls’ side, Auxilium Girls’ Higher Secondary School rose to the top, clinching the Girls’ Team Champions title, marking a strong performance in this year’s highly competitive tournament.
Organised by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the three-day event held from July 24 to 26 witnessed a historic turnout — a record 748 karatekas from 104 schools across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills regions participated, making it the largest edition in the tournament’s history.
Despite logistical challenges in accommodating such a massive influx of participants, AMKA ensured that every student from the age of six and above had the chance to compete, a move that drew praise from dignitaries and spectators alike.

St Anthony’s Lower Primary School and Providence School secured the boys’ and girls’ runners-up spots, respectively.
The closing ceremony was graced by Cabinet Minister and Government Spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh as the Chief Guest, while Meghalaya State Olympic Association General Secretary Finely L Pariat and Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd Chief Accounts Officer Aiborlang Shabong were present as Guests of Honour. The dignitaries handed out both team and individual awards and lauded the exceptional talent on display.
Minister Lyngdoh, impressed by the final bouts, remarked, “The skill and discipline of these young karatekas give us hope — Meghalaya’s future in martial arts is bright, and I am confident we’ll see many of them on national and international podiums soon.”
