Shillong Law College and MSCW Forge Partnership to Advance Gender Justice and Legal Awareness

In a move to strengthen gender justice and legal literacy in Meghalaya, the Women’s Cell and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Shillong Law College have joined hands with the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the MSCW office.

The agreement paves the way for close collaboration in legal education, research, outreach, and advocacy focused on women’s rights and gender equality. Under this partnership, the institutions will work together to organise capacity-building programmes, workshops, legal aid clinics, and awareness drives aimed at students, legal professionals, and the wider community.

The MoU was formally signed by MSCW Chairperson Ms. Iamonlang M. Syiem, Shillong Law College Principal Dr. Sharif Uddin, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Daiahunlin Mawlong, Women’s Cell Convener Dr. Arpita Singh, and MSCW Co-opted Member Dr. Thywill Susngi, in the presence of commission members, students, and invited guests.

This collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for student internships, research projects on women’s issues, and field-based engagement with communities, thereby bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application of the law.

Coming at a time when gender-sensitive legal frameworks and public awareness are being increasingly recognised as critical to inclusive development, the initiative is seen as a timely step toward empowering women and strengthening access to justice in the state.
