Royal Global University to Celebrate Academic Excellence and Northeast Heritage at 5th Convocation on October 31

The Assam Royal Global University (RGU), one of the leading private universities in Northeast India, is set to celebrate a landmark moment in its journey of academic growth and excellence as it hosts its 5th Convocation Ceremony on October 31, 2025.

The grand event will be presided over by Sri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Hon’ble Governor of Assam and the Visitor of RGU. The ceremony will also be attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. A. K. Pansari, Chancellor; Sri A. K. Modi, Pro-Chancellor; Prof. A. K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Education Minister of Assam; Sri Bimal Bora, Minister of Industries and Commerce; Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi, Member of Rajya Sabha, who will deliver the Convocation Address; and Sri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Member of Lok Sabha.

Announcing the details during a press conference on the university campus, Vice Chancellor Prof. A. K. Buragohain was joined by Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Emeritus Professor at the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity; Dr. Shiela Bora, Professor in the Department of History and Advisor, IKS Cell; Dr. Diganta Munshi, Registrar (Administration); and Dr. D. N. Singh, Registrar (Academics).

Addressing the media, Dr. Diganta Munshi informed that a total of 1,967 students will be conferred their degrees this year, including 1,093 undergraduates, 777 postgraduates and integrated course graduates, and 32 Ph.D. scholars. He said that 56 Gold Medalists and 58 Silver Medalists will be recognized for their academic achievements, while two Chancellor’s Gold Medals and five special awards will be presented for excellence in cultural, literary, and community activities, sports, and mentoring.

A major highlight of this year’s ceremony will be the conferment of honorary degrees (honoris causa) upon four eminent personalities for their remarkable contributions to their respective fields. Dr. Naresh Trehan, Padma Bhushan awardee and Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, will receive the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.); Sri Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, will receive the Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.); Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Sri Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi will receive the Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.); and eminent advocate Sri Mahesh Agarwal, Managing Partner of Agarwal Law Associates, will be conferred the Doctor of Law (LL.D.).

Prof. Buragohain stated that this year’s convocation will celebrate Arunachal Pradesh as its central theme, honouring the state’s rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions. RGU follows the distinctive practice of dedicating each convocation to a Northeastern state, showcasing its diversity, history, and cultural significance. Prof. Shiela Bora highlighted the university’s sustained efforts in promoting cultural and historical studies, while Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury spoke about the expanding creative initiatives of the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity, which continues to serve as a hub for interdisciplinary artistic expression and cultural dialogue.

Since its inception, Royal Global University has positioned itself as a pioneering centre of higher education in the region. With more than 8,500 students, including international learners from 13 countries, RGU boasts over 500 faculty members and 130 academic programs spread across 24 Schools of Studies.
