Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar Unveils Dr Ambedkar Bust at RGU, Urges Students to Uphold Constitutional Ideals

Guwahati: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) paid a profound tribute to India’s constitutional legacy as Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, unveiled a bust of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar—the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

The event, held just two days ahead of Constitution Day, was marked by reverence, reflection, and a call for renewed commitment to constitutional values.

Chief Justice Kumar also planted a tree on the university premises before interacting with students of the Royal School of Law & Administration. The ceremony witnessed the presence of RGU Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari; Dr. B.C. Barooah, Professor and Dean, Royal School of Law & Administration; Registrar (Administration) Dr. Diganta Munshi; Registrar (Academics) Dr. D.N. Singh; along with faculty members and students from the departments of Law, Sociology, Political Science, and Public Administration.

The Chief Justice urged students to imbibe the courage, intellect, and moral conviction embodied by Dr. Ambedkar. “Believe in yourselves and reject pessimism if you want to achieve your goals,” he said, adding, “On 26th November, we honour Dr. Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution—the mother of all laws.” He encouraged young scholars to remain inquisitive, fearless in their pursuit of truth, and committed to using legal education as an instrument of social transformation.

Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari reiterated RGU’s mission of fostering pride in India’s intellectual and constitutional heritage. “By installing busts and statues of India’s national icons, RGU aims to inspire students with patriotism, purpose, and a deeper understanding of our civilizational values. The unveiling of Dr. Ambedkar’s bust strengthens this ongoing effort,” he said.

The ceremony concluded with an interactive session, leaving students inspired to carry forward the ideals of justice, equality, and democracy that Dr. Ambedkar so fiercely championed.
