Guwahati: Modern English School (MES), Kahilipara, marked the Pre-Magh Bihu celebrations with vibrant cultural fervour and a deeply moving social initiative, reflecting the true essence of Assam’s harvest festival—gratitude, sharing, and togetherness.

The school campus came alive with the colours and rhythms of Bhogali Bihu as students presented soulful Bihu geets and energetic dance performances, drawing warm applause from teachers and peers alike. A traditional Meji was ceremonially lit, symbolising renewal, hope, and thanksgiving—values central to Magh Bihu. Addresses by the Director, Principal, and students underscored the importance of preserving Assam’s rich cultural heritage while nurturing moral strength, empathy, and social awareness among the younger generation.

The celebrations continued with the sharing of traditional pithas and laddus, reinforcing the communal spirit that defines Bhogali Bihu. However, the festivities did not remain confined to the school grounds.

Taking the spirit of the festival beyond the campus, MES organised a meaningful donation drive, turning celebration into compassion in action. Students and teachers visited Bhavada Devi Memorial Philanthropic Trust – ‘Seneh’, a home for destitute elderly women in Kahilipara. In a gesture marked by respect and sensitivity, the school donated food items and offered a humble monetary contribution for the welfare of the residents.

In a touching cultural exchange, the students honoured the Aitas (grandmothers) with traditional Gamusa and performed a lively Bihu dance, filling the home with music, laughter, and festive cheer. Deeply moved, the residents showered blessings on the students, praying for their happiness and success—a moment that left an indelible impression on all present.

School authorities stated that Modern English School will continue to integrate cultural observances with community outreach as part of its value education programme. “Such initiatives help students grow not only academically, but also as socially responsible and compassionate individuals,” they noted.

By seamlessly blending cultural celebration with social responsibility, Modern English School, Kahilipara, reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing students who are deeply rooted in tradition, guided by empathy, and inspired by a strong sense of humanity.
